This post is a review of Differential Producibility Analysis (DPA) of transcriptomic data to help understand metabolic status of a cell or microorganism by Bhushan Bonde.

This article describes a method that can extract the global metabolic state of a system from microarray data. It forms a good overview of the method, and its potential usefulness. There is also a useful, if brief, comparison with other tools.

The code mentioned as being included as supplementary material is absent. It would also be nice to have a short implementation example.

Other minor comments:

  • Change ‘which will be appearing the Plos Computational Biology’ to ‘which will be appearing in PLoS Computational Biology’
  • There is an extra line break in ‘When DPA can be applied?’ section, which could be removed.

A useful overview of an interesting looking tool.
